Pre-Op Instructions

On the day before your procedure, someone from the surgical facility will call you after 3 pm to confirm your arrival and surgery times. If you do not get a call by 5:30 pm, please call the facility directly.

We understand sometimes a surgery may need to be rescheduled. Please contact us two weeks before your surgery should you find the date no longer works so that we can schedule another patient.

Please follow these additional instructions:

  • Your medical clearance is due to our office one week before surgery unless otherwise specified. If your clearance does not arrive one week before surgery, we will postpone your appointment until we receive clearance. Please follow up with your doctor for clearance. It is your responsibility.
  • Stop any blood-thinning products 7 to 10 days before surgery. Examples include aspirin, Coumadin, Plavix and Meridia.
  • Unless otherwise instructed, do not eat or drink anything, including water, after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • Wear a button-down shirt for shoulder surgery.
  • Wear loose-fitting slacks, shorts, or jogging pants for knee surgery. Make sure you have crutches or a walker with you for after surgery. If you need a prescription for either, please let us know.
  • Your first follow-up appointment will be 7 to 14 days after surgery.
  • Your doctor will let you know when to start physical therapy. Generally, it won’t be until after your first post-surgery, follow-up appointment.
  • You will need someone 18 years or older with you on the day of your surgery.
  • You are responsible for informing the office of any changes to your insurance no later than one week before surgery. You will be responsible for any fees related to surgery and follow-up care if the office does not have the correct insurance information.
  • Our office will call on pre-authorizations and we will inform you if a deposit is required based upon your deductible. It is your responsibility to know your coverage and benefits.
  • Once your insurance has been processed for your procedure, we will bill you for the balance. Payment is due when you receive your statement.
  • If your condition is related to work or an auto accident, the office must have your claims information.
